KIWIA - Keen for a good bet Kiwia and the early quote could prove to be big odds come the jump. He returned in great shape steaming home over the 1400m at Flemington and we can forgive his last run at Bendigo. The track was clearly favouring on pace horses in the later part of the card and they cruised in front making it impossible for anything back in the field to get close. Fit now and out to a more suitable trip, expect them to be more positive early to hold a spot midfield or better, if he gets clear running they won’t beat him. Royal Order could be the value for quinellas, he has got a win over Kiwia five starts back.
RICH CHARM - I can’t see the $3.30 holding up for Rich Charm in this quality of race. He should have gone close to winning first-up when held up in the straight in a much stronger race. He then had every possible chance in the Newmarket but to be beaten just under three-lengths to Redkirk Warrior is super form dropping back to this race at level weights. He is coming off a freshen-up, but given a testing trial since and getting onto his favourite track where he’s unbeaten over this trip, if he can get cover in the three-wide line he’ll take some beating. Lucky Liberty could be the value, forget his last run where he had excuses.
RHYTHM TO SPARE - On a day where most races are dominated by short priced favourites thrown it at the weights I’m keen to try Rhythm To Spare at big odds in the last. He did enough fresh when dropped out the back from the start and he hit the line well without being asked to find his top. Second-up last time in he dropped straight into the box seat over a mile here at Caulfield and bolted in. From the good gate expect them to ride him much more positive and if he can get clear air from the turn he’ll be charging through the line. Fastnet Tempest is ready to peak and Land Of Plenty is a must for any exotics.
VALTONA - The Pizzuto stable look to hold the key in the last at Penrith, with Valtona and Alta Teresa likely to be battling it out for favouritism. Without knowing any declarations of COT’s, it looks as though Valtona will lead as Alta Teresa went back last start, which was her first run back from a spell. Valtona has been off the back line her last four runs and previous to that, she was a smart winner here, she should lob on the bunny here and prove too hard to catch. If there are no change of tactic notifications, expect her to be backed into favouritism.
FIREASHOT - Fireashot should have the speed to cross the pole marker early. Only missing a placing once in her eight start career and if she can get a cheap sectional or two it will be a tough task to run her down. She will probably be easy in the betting with the driver change, she was home in a smart 57 and change two starts back here when leading. Replicating that in front tonight, none of these will be getting past her in the straight.
